As Tradition strengthens, vocations increase… Our Carmel needs to expand!

Carmel of the Holy Trinity, Spokane Washington

The steady flow of vocations seems to indicate that the Carmel of the Holy Trinity will be called on to make foundations in our country in the future… but first our Monastery needs to be expanded to its full capacity so it can form the vocations God is sending.

ear Friends and Benefactors,

Along with many other religious communities, we have the wonderful problem of having run out of space! Our Carmel of the Holy Trinity was built in 1990 with a capacity for 12 to 15 nuns. A “full” Carmelite community consists of 21 nuns, with the possibility of temporarily increasing this number in view of eventually splitting the Community for a new foundation.

I n recent years, vocations have increased to the point that our Carmel is nearly full, and there are many eager young ladies hoping to join us in the future. New generations of Traditional Catholic girls, and those who have recently discovered Tradition, have a keen appreciation of the value of the Carmelite vocation of love, prayer, and sacrifice. More young ladies than ever before are knocking at our doors, but we are absolutely unable to increase our numbers… due to lack of space!

urrently, our Carmel has:

  • Only 14 of the usual 21 cells
  • Only 10 of the usual 20 or so work offices
  • A Chapter Room only big enough for 12 nuns
  • Insufficient Infirmary space or facilities to care for sick

and elderly Sisters

  • Inadequate laundry facilities
  • Only 1 of the usual 5 or 6 indoor hermitages for solitary prayer
  • Only 2 small closets for storage space
  • No space to store our home-grown produce, upon which

we depend for our daily food all year round

O ur daily lives and Community exercises are significantly impacted by these constraints. One Sister sleeps under the table in her office, and another in the pharmacy closet! We are overflowing!

he proposed new wing will include:

  • 8 new cells
  • 10 new offices, including a workshop
  • A larger Chapter Room to fit 21 nuns
  • A functional monastic Infirmary
  • A larger laundry room for a full community
  • Hermitage cells for solitary prayer
  • Storage rooms to ensure monastic order and neatness
  • A basement and root cellar to store our garden produce

THE ESTIMATED COST OF THIS YEAR-LONG PROJECT

TO EXPAND OUR CARMEL COMES TO $3,607,157.08.

W e have been planning and saving for this project for several years, and we are deeply grateful to all our generous benefactors: you have already helped us to raise more than one quarter of this sum!

O ur Community applies itself diligently each day to our own fundraising efforts, by the works of our hands. But we humbly ask for your kind and generous support to help us complete this project, counting on the love and appreciation you have always shown for Carmel.

We place this appeal under the protection of Our Good Father St. Joseph and that of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, whose centenary of canonization we will celebrate on May 17, 2025. May the Little Flower most particularly bless our building project, and all those who will help us to bring it to completion.

“Charity gave me the key to my vocation. I understood that if the Church had a body composed of different members, the most necessary and most noble of all could not be lacking to it, and so I understood that the Church had a heart and that this Heart was burning with love…. Then, in the excess of my delirious joy, I cried out: O Jesus, my Love… my vocation, at last I have found it… my vocation is love!… In the Heart of the Church, my Mother, I shall be love. Thus I shall be everything and thus my dream will be realized.” St. Therese of the Child Jesus

Carmel is all Mary’s

For the love of Our Lady, Queen and Beauty of Carmel, please consider helping us to carry on Carmel’s cloistered life of prayer and penance, which is vital in this world, so in need of God.

Thank you! Deo Gratias!
